What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a tracked link to a retailer. If you click it and buy something, we may receive a small commission from that retailer. The price you pay is exactly the same — the commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.
Which programmes we use
We participate in affiliate programmes with retailers and networks in the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe. We will list the specific programmes here as we join them.
How we mark affiliate links
Articles containing affiliate links carry a disclosure near the top of the page, before the first link appears. This is required by the Federal Trade Commission in the United States and by the ASA and CAP Code in the United Kingdom, and we consider it basic honesty regardless.
How commission affects what we recommend
It does not. We recommend things based on whether we think they are right for the reader. We regularly mention products we earn nothing from, and we say plainly when we think something is not worth buying.
If we have not personally used a product, we say so in the article rather than implying hands-on testing. Our Editorial Policy sets out that commitment in full.
